When this happens, the hanging file/process starts eating up resources and entire system comes to a halt. The problem also appears to happen anytime I try to Open or Save a file. It has become nearly IMPOSSIBLE to use my MBP for work due to the CONSTANT freezing/hanging whenever I open Finder and try to browse through folders. Since then I've come to regret this decision beyond belief. I haven't tested every program in the computer, but so far most that I have opened have ended in some sort of crash.Ĭan anyone propose a reason why or a solution to these problems?įinder and Open&Save Dialogs Hanging/Freezing after Catalina Update A few weeks back I decided to update my 2012 Macbook Pro from High Sierra to Catalina (10.15.4). It is difficult to be a virus since all my downloads are carefully checked are are mostly PDFs or JPGs, but yet the symptoms are very much like a virus. Any program that has frozen and forced to quit does not relaunch, instead only jumps up and down indefinitely on the taskbar.Īll these issues happened almost successively within a few hours and the freezing/crashing is very consistent, indicating that it is not an isolated incident. The laptop also can't be shut down until it is ejected, making me force the shut down via the power button.įirst Aid reveals no issues on the local drive, but the process fails when scanning the external drive, followed by freezing. Attempting to eject the external drive deep freezes Finder, and it cannot be relaunched through Force Quit. Opening the external drive on Finder again becomes impossibly slow, taking minutes to open a folder. I attempted to back up all my files on the external drive onto another external drive, but copying the files over freezes at around 1%. Then I found that SketchUp crashed 2 times in 3 minutes, which previously worked with no issues up until the software update. I figured it was an Adobe issue so I deleted and reinstalled all the programs and now they operate normally. Finally Lightroom would keep reminding me that there is no storage left on my laptop to add new files or to export (saved on the local drive with 200+ GB free storage), so I redirected the exports to my external drive. Then on Photoshop, the program would not save any of the changes (saved on an external drive) I had made and upon restarting it, had corrupted the file I was working on. It began with an InDesign file (saved on the local drive) where deleting a picture frame would freeze the program for tens of minutes. If the crashing makes your app unusable, use another device or Evernote Web until the issue can be resolved. My laptop began to consistently crash yesterday with multiple programs.
